How will I get through another day?

Sometimes I wonder, "How will I get through another day?"

It is at these times that I catch myself walking out the door down the long drive outside. I have walked this walk hundreds of times since my late husband passed away in '06. At these times, when I feel most vulnerable, exhausted, and plum used up, I look up to the heavens and catch myself muttering, pleading, "God, be enough ... please God, just be enough!"

I never feel the earth rumble under my feet. I don't hear a voice in my head telling me everything will be okay. I don't feel satisfied or that anything has changed. Yet, somehow, there is a release when I cry out to him. I let out a long breath in a sigh, look up at the house, and brace myself for the next chapter of my life.

One thing this little ritual has done for me, is allowed me to throw all of my sorrows, my worries and woes, to a something that is out there, that is much bigger than you or I. That something is a person, of sorts, that I have grown very close to and very fond of. I call him my Lord. He is my heavenly father, my Lord Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, all wrapped up in an entity that I choose to call God.

How sweet it is to realize that I don't have to carry my own burdens. When I just don't know what else to do, I do what I do best and should always do first ... I roll it over to him. He is enough, by golly! He is that substance of things I know exists, though I can no more see it than I can the air that I breathe or the heart that beats within my own body. Yet, not seeing these things doesn't mean they are not real. In fact I must believe, I choose to believe, that he cares for me, he loves me, and that he is assuredly enough!

When we serve others, give and do, think of others and put them before ourselves, we are “doing” the Word. We spend our time, our efforts, our energy into loving others and loving the Lord. We worship the Lord by the way we live our lives before others. When we spend all our resources on others or on business (busy-ness) and responsibilities, we can easily run out of energy and resources to care for ourselves. Exhaustion sets in, as well as an opportunity for a bad attitude to creep in. When this happens, we then feel guilty and get bitter, which tends to undo all the good we have done. The Lord gave us an admonition, "Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." When we use our cell phone, we can communicate with our loved ones, take care of business, and tend to errands that we’d otherwise have to take care of on foot. When that phone runs out of juice, it is good for nothing! We’ve got’ta plug that li ttle handheld wonder into a power source on a daily basis for it to retain power. Hmmm, how come we can’t see that we must do the same thing? The source of our power is none other than our Lord! He gives us energy, and He allows us to help with the work He places before us, much like a cellphone helps us with ours. Get the picture? We must REST in Him … much like a phone simply does nothing for a certain period of time so it can revamp and get fully charged! Words of encouragement for you whom are weary today … "Come to Me, all [you] who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29 "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 The LORD God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer's [feet], And He will make me walk on my high hills. Habakkuk 3:19 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew [their] strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
